9th Kup Grading Syllabus



Move left foot into a sitting stance & extend left fist - Perform 10 sets of double punches, followed by extension of right fist & another 10 sets (counting)

20 push-ups using forefists (counting 1 - 20) - juniors & females use palms.

Chon-ji pattern (Tul) calling name of pattern on completion of last movement

Saju Jirugi

Front Snap kick (target should be central to the body & not higher than solar plexis), commencing with right foot, followed by middle section obverse/reverse punches (4 times - counting) using knee spring on second technique (reverse punch).

Moving backward in walking stance, performing middle section inner forearm outward block, followed by middle section reverse punch using knee spring on second technique (4 times - counting)





Meaning of the colour yellow - Signifies earth, from which a plant sprounts & takes root as the foundation for Taekwon-do is laid.

First pattern - Chon-Ji has 19 movements. (Note: There are 24 patterns in
Taekwon-do). Meaning:- It means literally the 'Heaven the Earth'. It is, in the
orient interpreted as the creation of the world or the beginning of human history.
It is therefore, the initial pattern played by the beginner. This pattern consists
of two similar parts, one to represent the heaven & the other to represent the
earth.


Definition of the word 'Pattern'= Tul
Tul is a series of offensive & defensive moves which are set in a logical sequence against one or more imagininary opponents.

Ready posture for Chon-Ji is Narani Junbi Sogi.

Terminology for:  a)  Front snap kick - Ap Cha Busigi using : b)  Ball of foot - Apcumchi

2 blocks used in Chon-ji:
a) Low section outer forearm block - Najunde Bakat Palmok Makgi.
b) Middle section inner forearm block - Kaunde An Palmok Makgi.

2 stances used in Chon-ji
a) Walking stance - Gunnon sogi (50% of weight on BOTH legs)
b) L stance - Niunja sogi (30% of weight on front leg & 70% of weight oj back leg)

Must be able to describe & demonstrate all movements in Chon-Ji
E.g.a) 1st Movement: Wen Gunnon Sogi, Najunde Bakat Palmok Makgi
b) 6th Movement: Orun Gunnon Sogi, Kaunde Baro Ap Joomok Jirugi
c) 9th Movement: Orun Niunja Sogi, Kaunde An Palmok Makgi
d) 11th Movement: Wen Niunja Sogi, Kaunde An Palmok Makgi
e) 19th movement: Orun Gunnon Sogi, Kaunde Baro Ap Joomok Jirugi

Inward block - Anuro makgi (any block which travels towards the users body)
Outward block - Bakuro makgi (any block which travels away from the users body)
