About Master Doug Cook Master Doug Cook's work in Totally Tae Kwon Do first appeared in the magazine in September 2009. By then, however, Master Cook had already published three books about the Korean martial art: 1) Taekwondo: Ancient Wisdom for the Modern Warrior; 2) Traditional Taekwondo: Core Techniques, History & Philosophy; and 3) Taekwondo: A Path to Excellence. Master Cook's fourth book, Taekwondo Black Belt Poomsae: Original Koryo & Koryo, would be jointly authored with his legendary instructor, Grandmaster Richard Chun, four years later. Master Doug Cook has received many accolades during his martial journey. He has received letters of appreciation and recognition from the World Taekwondo Federation, the Moo Duk Kwan in Seoul, and the South Korean government. He has been selected as Instructor or Master of the Year more than once. He has been inducted into several Taekwondo halls of fame. The list goes on. Master Cook, who received his 7th Dan from Grandmaster Chun in late 2016, seeks to advance the art by explaining and sharing principles found within the Do, or way. Like his legendary instructor, Grandmaster Chun, who published his exhaustive masterpiece Tae Kwon Do: The Korean Martial Art in 1976 - Master Cook also strives to explain, promote and preserve the traditions of Taekwondo. His many articles discuss various topics of concern to the earnest practitioner: the purpose and import of serious martial study; the moral codes and philosophies which sustain the art; traditional training and exercises; ki development and meditation; and the sanctity of tradition in and out of the dojang; to name only a few. Master Cook's loyalty and commitment to his teacher and the principles of Do have never strayed, and his work collected here in a single issue for the first time, confirms his resolve. Master Cook owns and operates the Chosun Taekwondo Academy in Warwick, New York, in the United States. |
