Interviews, Biographies & Legacies - Vol. 2 Special Edition Many believe Taekwondo is composed only of blocks, kicks and punches. Totally Tae Kwon Do has reached its 100th issue milestone in 2017, however, by publishing articles which contribute to a better understanding of Taekwondo by making its complicated and controversial history, moral and physical principles, techniques, and practice both meaningful and relevant. We believe such emphasis has fallen to the wayside in other magazines, many of which are no longer published. While Taekwondo is indeed about blocking, kicking and punching, the art is about so much more. Totally Tae Kwon Do has collected all its articles about the people who have helped develop Taekwondo and make it a global phenomenon into these Interviews, Profiles & Legacies Special Editions. This second volume introduces readers to Kim Bok-Man, who helped General Choi Hong-Hi develop, promote and distribute Taekwon-Do from inception to the late 1960s; B. S. Huan, who witnessed Kim Bok-Man's historical first demonstration in Singapore and became the Father of Taekwon-Do in that country; Richard Chun and Sihak Henry Cho, two Korean black belts who pioneered traditional and Olympic Taekwondo in the United States; Rhee Ki-Ha, to whom General Choi bestowed the first title of Grandmaster; Son Duk Sung, second kwan jang nim of the Chung Do Kwan and author of Korean Karate: The Art of Tae Kwon Do; and Hee Il Cho, whose spectacular breaking techniques inspired an entire generation of martial artists; as well as more contemporary proponents Jayanth Reddy, double Guinness World Record Holder; Stephen Gell, eight time Global Taekwon-Do Federation World Champion; Johnny Black, a well-loved and respected instructor in the UK; Benny Teh, who at 17 was the youngest ITF Taekwon-Do instructor in Malaysia; and Dr. He-Young Kimm, author of the distinguished tome Taekwondo History, to name only a few. We hope readers find these Interviews, Profiles & Legacies useful and relevant to their journey. |
