About Dr. George Vitale George Vitale is a remarkable figure in Taekwon-Do. He was instrumental in petitioning the Taekwondowon to recognize General Choi in the history of Taekwon-Do in 2016. A Senior Master in Ch'ang Hon Taekwon-Do, Master Vitale also holds a Ph.D. from - of all places! - the Democratic People's Republic of Korea, or North Korea - the first American to receive such, in 2011. In 2009, he received a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Official Taekwondo Hall of Fame®. Dr. Vitale played a vital role in bringing the first historic group of North Koreans to the United States for a nationwide exhibition of North Korean Taekwon-Do in 2007. He headed the security detail for two New York state governors during his 24-year tenure with the New York State Police (1981-2005). Dr. Vitale's vita lists more than a dozen additional accolades and awards. Dr. Vitale is particularly passionate about Taekwon-Do history and politics. He deftly navigates organizations around the world to advance Taekwondo in all its variations. Using skills honed as an investigator for the New York State Police, Dr. Vitale has spoken with and interviewed every important Taekwon-Do figure, including General Choi Hong-Hi, to date. He has provided assistance and guidance for countless projects for innumerable of national and international organizations. If someone has a question about Taekwondo, particularly its history,, Dr. Vitale likely knows the answer, or where to find it. He is just as likely to recommend someone to the immediate source. The work Dr. Vitale has published in Totally Tae Kwon Do is unparalleled. His articles span many facets of the art, including history, techniques, tradition, and politics. His first article - a narrative about his legendary instructor Grandmaster Kim Kwang-Sung - appeared in the very first issue in 2009.
