English Taekwon-do Schools Championships
November 19th, 2000

-- REPORT --

Students travelled down to Erith to compete at the English Taekwon-do Schools Championships. The day started of well with some good performances in the patterns divisions, with Kate Barry picking up a silver in patterns & Dev Patel picking up the Academys first Gold in patterns with an outstanding performance. It must be said that to win a gold in patterns is a very difficult achievment & Dev won this at his very first competition. Ade also made it through to the semi finals but unfortunatly a trophy for him was not destined to be for patterns that day.

In the sparing divisions, as always, Rayners Lane shone through with some oustanding performances. Kate Barry picked up another silver in the Ladies sparring, Ade Odunaiya picked up a silver in the Mens heavyweight sparring division, Dev picked up his second trophy of the day by winning a silver in the junior sparring divisions. The second gold position of the day was won by Parvez Sultan, who despite being only 15 years old, bravely fought in the adult division (16/18+ usually) and won it with some fine leg techniques, receiving a great compliment on the way (see above).

Later in the day saw myself & Vikrum compete in the Black belt Sparring. Although the division was pretty poorly populated this time around, Vik & myself met in the finals. Unfortunatly (and luckily for me & my credibility - not really) Vik had to settle for silver & I claimed the gold. The day finished off with black belt destruction which saw black belts breaking through 2 black boards (equal to 4 normal boards) with jumping back kicks.
