Kick It Taekwon-do Championship
October 2002
Students from Rayners Lane Taekwon-do Academy returned triumphant with an amazing haul of 18 medals, which included 10 gold medals, from the `Kick It` Taekwon-do Championships, held recently in Kent.

The competition featured two distinct sections. Firstly `Patterns` which shows the technical grace of Taekwon-do & secondly `sparring` which shows the ferocity of Taekwon-do, both sections require a great amount of skill in many areas.

In the junior divisions, which are split between both grade (belt level) & heights, both Dev Patel & Kanai Brand won double gold medals each in both the sparring & patterns section. Sushil Punj fought extremely well, with some blistering hand combinations to take the gold medal in his division for sparring. Jessica McLeod took a silver in the junior girls sparring division & a bronze medal in the patterns section. Emmelle Wilson-Raymond also took a silver for sparring in her division.

In the adult divisions Parvez Sultan won a gold in both patterns & sparring.  Colin Avis fought well, beating team mate Amittai Antoine in the sparring finals to claim the gold & Amittai the silver. Justin Goh took the Gold medal in his sparring division also. Bernard Rebelo fought well in his first tournament to take a well earned silver medal. Bronze medals were also claimed by David Lane & Khadra Yusef in their respective divisions. Lloyd Lewis & Ben Stephens also represented the Academy well & were unfortunate not to place.

Finally, in the black belt sections, the Academies instructor, Stuart Anslow took silver in the patterns divisions & the gold in the black belt sparring divisions.

The Academy also won the overall `points` placing with a 41 point total.
