Gradings At Rayners Lane Academy
Gradings at the Academy are held every 3 months, students can only grade if they have been training regularly & pass a free assessment by the instructor.

Seniors grade every 6 months.

They are formal affairs with full ettique and take place in front of a panel of 3 examiners (two of which are outside examiners) in order to keep the highest standards.
Patterns play a fundamental role in gradings. They must be performed accuratly, with power and spirit.
Just like patterns, step sparring forms a integral part of coloured belt gradings.

Step sparring consists of 3, 2 and 1 step sparring.
Again, students are expected to perform accuratly, with poise and intensity.

1 step sparring is graded at Blue belt and students are expected to display a variety of techniques from jumping kicks, to arm locks & take downs

Semi-free sparring is graded from Green belt onwards
Breaking becomes part of the gradable syllabus from Yellow belt. All students (no matter what age) follow the  `3 attempts` rule!

Red belts perform proper Hosin Sool, including anti-knife defences.
Exercises form part of the junior (white belt) grades only.

Adult students perform knuckle press-ups, female adult students have the choice & under 16's use their palms

Young students are seen as young martial artists, as opposed to children playing martial arts and as such are expected to follow the same ettique and discipline as adult students.
