Rules & Regulations

Patterns
1) Patterns are split into Junior & Seniors Coloured Belts & further split in 14 years & under & Adult (15 years plus)
2) Black belts will compete all in one division unless there is a high percentage of junior entries in before the deadline
3) Competitors will compete two at a time, but will be scored individually
4) Competitors will be given an overall mark between 1 & 10, with 1 being poor & 10 being superb
5) The first two competitors will set the trend for the scoring
6) 5 Black Belt Judges will score the patterns
7) The highest & Lowest marks will not count & the final scores will be added up to form the total
8) The top 2/3 scores at the end will compete again for trophy positions
9) Competitors will be drawn at random before the event
10) Black belts will compete individually, with 3 to 5 judges depending on who is competing
11) Competitors must perform either their grade pattern or the pattern below
12) Black belts can perform any black belt pattern
13) Grade patterns that can be performed are as follows:
9th kup (White belt) - Chon-ji         8th Kup (Yellow Belt) - Dan Gun
7th Kup (Yellow Belt) - Do San      6th Kup (Green Belt) - Won Hyo
5th Kup (Green Belt) - Yul Guk      4th Kup (Blue Belt) - Joong Gun
3th Kup (Blue Belt) - Toi Gye         2nd Kup (Red Belt) - Hwa Rang
1st Kup (Red Belt) - Choong Moo    Dan Grades - Any Dan Pattern

14) Saju Jirugi or Saju Makgi is not permitted as they are not patterns
15) Patterns divisions are only open to 9th Kups  above
16) Trophies will be presented at the end of day for 1st, 2nd & 3rd place


Coloured Belt Continuous Sparring
1) 1.5 minute rounds (Finals 2 minutes)
2) 4 corner judges (not from club of either competitor)
3) Referee is there to enforce the rules only unless extra time ensues
4) These matches will take place without mats
5) Divisions will be drawn before the event day.
5b) 11 year olds & below is a mixed divsion of boys & girls. All others are seperate.
6) Scoring is as follows:
                a) 1 point for a hand technique to body or head
                b) 2 points for a flurry of hand techniques (i.e. 2 or more in quick succession)
                c) 2 points for a body kick
                d) 3 points for a head kick
                e) 3 points for a jumping kick to body
                f) 4 points for a jumping kick to head

7) A margin of 1 must be obtained to win, extension of 30 seconds if this is not possible. After two extensions of 30 seconds, the chief official decides if still drawn.

8) Warning, then minus points for following:
a) Stepping out of the fighting area
b) Excessive contact (3 warnings is a disqualification)
c) Touching the floor with any part of the body except the sole of the foot
d) Low kicking (below the waist)
e) Kicking to the back of body or head
f) Sweeping, holding, grabbing
g) Fighting off the mats
h) Blind techniques (i.e. spinning back fists)

9) Instant Disqualification for the following:
a) Deliberate misconduct (Arguing with referee, swearing, loss of temper etc.)
b) Drawing blood (Competitors will have to withdraw if they are bleeding or have blood on their uniforms)
c) Badly maintain equipment (I.e. Hand pads repaired with tape etc.)
d) Competitors not on the mats after their names have been called three times.
e) Competitors not ready for their divisions (Please ensure students are ready by following the order of events posted on the walls).

10) Equipment:
a) Semi - contact Hand & foot pads only (No other type of glove is permitted)
b) Groin guards for all males
c) Head guards
d) Shin pads
e) Mouth Guard optional

11) Winning Positions
a) 1st, 2nd & possibly joint 3rd place (if there are enough entries).
b) Trophies will be presented at the end of day


Black Belt Technical Destruction
Explanation of Black Belt Technical Destruction
This division allows each competitor to display a special breaking technique of their own choosing. For example they may perform a power technique (eg. Punch through 3 boards), an flying technique ( e.g. Flying Side Kick) or a combination technique (eg. Double Jumping Turning Kick), or anything else they feel will look impressive in front of the judges.


1) Marking will be on difficulty, technique & flair
2) No breaking holders allowed, fellow black & red belts will be required to hold materials,
with the exception of downward techniques where bricks etc. may be used.
3) Competitor may use as many holders as they deem applicable
4) Points deducted for feats attempted but items not broken or second attempts
5) Any breaking material can be used, competitor should bring it with them (we can supply
tiles & up to 3 breaker boards)
6) No spacers are allowed
7) The tiles are coarse, so a thin pad may be used for protection
8) Please ensure any materials break away from the direction of audience. Please keep all breaks safe.
9) Please inform me of any special requirements that you may need, in advance
10) No excessively long measure ups!
11) No fire or messy breaks (ie. Pots with water in etc.)

Flying Blue Eagle Division
1) Open to all students, male & female, any grade but must be 14 years & older
2) For safety, technique will be performed over `Kick Shields`, that gradually get higher
3) A proper technique must be executed, hitting the target & landing on both feet
4) No measure ups
5) Disqualification for the following:
        a) Knocking over the obstacle
        b) Not hitting the target
        c) Not landing on feet

6) In the event of a draw, alternative leg will be called for.
7) In the event of a further draw, winner will be deemed the heaviest competitor
8) 1st & second place trophies only for this division

Overall Winners Prize Vouchers
1) £100 worth of vouchers to be split between any competitor whom is fortunate enough to win enough medal points
2) Vouchers presented at the end of the tournament, if competitor has left, then they will miss out!
3) Medal points as follows:
         3 points - Gold in any division
         2 points - silver in any division
         1 point - bronze in any division
         3 points - Best Competitor award

Example: Should the competitor gain silver in patterns, gold in sparring & a best competitor award they total 8 points, but should a competitor gain a gold in 3 divisions they total 9 points!


Further Information
1) All officials to be in formal dress. (I.e. White shirt, grey or dark trousers, dark tie, white trainers or TKD shoes, blazer if appropriate).
2) Dobok with or without club tracksuit may be worn if competing soon
3) Refreshments will be available on the day.
4) Please ensure spillages are cleaned up & rubbish is put in the bins.
5) Only water will be allowed near the competition area (No glass bottles)
6) All competitors must be ready to compete (see order of competition & equipment). Any student not ready will be disqualified.
7) All decisions on the day are final.
8) Neither the Academy, nor competition organisers will be responsible for the safety of your students stuff, please ensure someone keeps an eye on it.

Entry Forms
1) All entry forms should be in by the
End Of April, 2003.
2) Single entries in after the deadline cost £15 instead of £10 & only if space permits.
3) This is to ensure adequate preparation.
4)) Your co-operation is greatly appreciated & helps towards the running of a smooth event


There will be raffles on the day for some cool, top of the range, martial arts equipment


Hot/cold food, snacks & drinks will be available throughout the day
